Moyross is Blooming Great

Summer project 2009

bloom set upThe aim is to Promote and improve the image of Moyross in a positive way. The Flower project committees have encouraged a large number of residents, in each of the 12 parks, to display window boxes and hanging baskets. This will add colour to our Parks, lift the spirit of the community and will encourage residents to plant more summer bedding. The Flower Project took take place on Friday 1st May in the Moyross Community Enterprise Centre. It was a sea of colour with a variety of flowers to choose from. It was wonderful to see so many residents making window boxes and hanging baskets. This year residents from Moyross, Caherdavin, Shelbourne Road, Thomondgate, Ballynanty, Parteen and Killaloe took part in the project.

The total number at the end of the day was 275 containers, of window boxes and hanging baskets were filled. This will be an annual event in the Moyross calendar.

A project like this does not just happen without a lot of hard work and commitment behind the scenes. Tracy McElligott, development worker with the Moyross Residents Forum Ltd wishes to thank all the members of the Flower project for all their hard work, time and commitment to the project. It was great working with you all and I am already looking forward to next year.

The members of the Moyross is Blooming Great Committee are, Nuala O Connell, Anna Price, Deirdre Ryan, Kathleen McCarthy, Deirdre O Driscoll, Eileen Ryan and Eileen Sheehan. Paul Partnership under Community Development funded the project in 2008 which has helped to make this a success. The committee wishes to thank Heaton's David O Neill and Home Base, Sophie Philips for all the help and support they have given the Moyross is Blooming Great Project this year in sourcing the materials.

Peregrine Falcons Visit Moyross

In March 2008, an arts project brought three Peregrine Falcons to Moyross. The three falcons had miniature cameras attached to them, recording a bird's eye view of Moyross.
